HDMI Video Input: 1x HDMI type A connector The camera uses image processing to conform the recording settings to the video output signal standard.SDI Video Input: 1x 10-bit SD/HD switchable The video output is almost always going to run at 60hz for most cameras, unless specifically stated otherwise. So TL DR, the recording resolution and frame rate is not equivalent to the video output of the device.

(you'll also sometimes see 1080p 59.94 video referred to as a "3G" signal if the cabling is HD-SDI) 1080p 60hz is higher quality, and uses more data, so it's just too much for the Ultrastudio to handle. The Ultrastudio is a pretty old product, thus it was only designed to support official "broadcast" resolutions, which in the US is only 1080i and 720p. In this case, 1080i is your next best bet, since both devices support 1080i 59.94. Since 1080p 59.94 fps is higher than what the Ultrastudio can support, you have to dumb both your camera and Ultrastudio down to the next lowest frame rate and resolution that they can both do. It just introduces a pulldown to insert duplicate frames to hit that 59.94 target if you're sensor is scanning at something lower like 23.976 or 29.97. The video will still have the stylistic look at whatever the recording frame rate is at, since that's what the sensor is scanning at, but NTSC video standards mandate all signals in that range run at 60hz. Whether the camera is set to record at 24p, 25p, 30p, 60p, etc, the live video output is always going to be 60hz, which is equivalent to 59.94 fps. Most cameras output 1080p video at 60hz regardless of what the recording settings of the camera are set to. The maximum resolution / frame rate the Ultrastudio can support is 1080p 30fps. Just a side note, if you’re planning on using live video in ProPresenter just be mindful that is adds MANY frames of delay to video this method so if you’re using it as IMAG or something for a live audience, you might have a bad time. If I were you, I would verify camera output first then move from there. The fact that you’re seeing it populated as a camera within ProPresenter makes me more wary of maybe you’re just not getting video output from camera to UltraStudio but who knows. It is not needed for what you’re trying to do IIRC Desktop video is in order for you to capture/encode video you want to edit on your computer.

In my experience, the UltraStudio mini has been mostly plug and play with Macs and I’ve never had to even install drivers for it to show up as an external camera in softwares such as wirecast or ProPresenter.

Has anyone had experience with this, or give me any other troubleshooting steps to try?Ĭouple things that come to my mind that might be helpful in troubleshooting.įirst, what camera are you using and are you positive you have it outputting via its SDI or HDMI output? I would test to verify by testing from the camera to a display and make sure you’re getting output from the camera I don't get anything on my output preview in ProPresenter. I select the UltraStudio Mini Recorder and set the mode to 1080p30. Then I go over to ProPresenter 6, and try to enable it there. Should there be anything in the Output Format column? It says it's giving me 1080p30, which is fine. I've allowed BlackMagic to operate in my privacy and security settings. I've downloaded the latest versions of Desktop Video and converter drivers from BlackMagic's support page (which is really weird to navigate by the way). That outputs Thunderbolt 2, which I convert to Thunderbolt 3 via an adapter bought recently from Apple. I'm trying to use the Live Video feature in ProPresenter 6 (on an IMac) with a camera that goes HDMI out of it into a BlackMagic UltraStudio Mini Recorder.
